For the next four weeks, we will be remembering what we learned in Bible School at the beginning of the summer. Have fun learning more about each story from your children; they are sometimes our greatest teachers!
Gathering Prayer: (Do this prayer repeat-after-me style)
Dear God, we thank you for always being with us, for making your home with us, and for leading us along life’s way. Help us to always follow where you lead. Amen.
Bible Story: Joshua 3:1-6, 13-17
Read about God’s People Crossing into the Promised Land in a children’s Bible or online here: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua+3%3A1-6%2C+13-17+&version=ERV
Here is a video to show you the story:
Questions to Ponder:
- Tell about a time when you wanted to remember something that was very important.
- How did you decide to remember it?
- Where is a place that you know that God makes a home?
- Where do you find God in your daily life?
Song: Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho
Once the people entered into the Promised Land, they had to fight several battles in order to get it. The first one was at Jericho. We did air boxing as we sang the words to this song.
Activity: Home for God
Since the Ark of the Covenant was a home for God for many years, I thought it might be a good idea to set up a place for God to call home in our own home. It will be a place on a shelf in our living room that we can see it all of the time. It will include a cross, a candle, a Bible, a dish with prayer beads, and whatever else our kids might think that God would want in God’s home-away-from-home. It might look like this:
Closing Prayer: (Do this prayer repeat-after-me style)
God be in my head, and in my understanding.
God be in my eyes, and in my looking.
God be in my mouth, and in my speaking.
God be in my heart, and in my thinking.
God be at my end, and at my departing. Amen.
